Irish Rover 14 #1 Posted April 2, 2014 I was looking to add some extra visibility to my tractor while working on the airport runways. Pilots are way better at being aware than most motorists while plowing an blowing at night. I thought I would share what I have come up with. I have installed some alternating flashing lights on the rear of my C-100 I installed a nice little NAPA bus to the positive post of the battery. Then I installed a simple single pole single throw switch in the panel. I purchased a Grote 44730 alternating flasher. This flasher will flash the left an fright side lights at alternating intervals. There are three posts on the flasher. One for the positive lead from the switch, and one for left and one for right side lights. I did come to find out that this flasher will not function with LED lights without also adding a load resistor to the circuit due to the fact that LEDs don't pull enough juice to activate the flasher. I opted for regular incandescent lights to avoid adding the resistors. I have a short video of the finished lights, but I'm not sure how to attach it. roscoemi 245 #3 Posted April 2, 2014 I have something similar on mine that flashes all lights in one position and on as normal in the other. I'm not sure if they can be seen because of my bright as the sun led flood lights on the cab, added to keep the neighborhood derelict's kid from hitting me while doing 90 down a side street on a curve in the winter. JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,498 #5 Posted April 2, 2014 Irish, that looks great and simple. no overcomplications. Let me ask you a question please. Do you think you could tie the headlights into that to? So then the front and rear lights would alternate / flash at the same time. I really like how you did that. Thanks for posting it. Glenn
Irish Rover 14 #6 Posted April 2, 2014 Glen, The flasher is good for a load of up to 10 lights. You could easily tie the headlights to the flasher as well. You could even run a double pole double throw switch for the headlights. Flip the switch one way for constant on, or flip it the other to run your headlights through the flasher. Sounds like roscoe has a similar setup. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

roscoemi 245 #8 Posted April 2, 2014 That's exactly how mine works.
JC 1965 1,532 #9 Posted April 2, 2014 I really like that setup but I have LED tail lights on mine.
Irish Rover 14 #10 Posted April 2, 2014 If you do a google search for "Load Resistor" you will find them right away along with simple schematics on how to wire them. They are only a couple bucks a piece. You could also use a incandescent light bulb tucked out of sight in place of a resistor. You will then pull enough juice to get the flasher to work. You could spend $100.00 on a solid state unit that will do the same thing for a whole lot more money. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

roscoemi 245 #12 Posted April 3, 2014 Yeah Dave, only 90. One tried more than that the Wed night before Thanksgiving a few years ago. When he realized he would not make the curve, he locked up the brakes leaving 200' of rubber before wiping out the kids car and the wife's van in the driveway. He went and hid at home a block away. I had a very no bs taking Sheriff deputy banging on his door at 7am Friday morning, no more problems from that joker.
