bmsgaffer 2,053 #1 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) I happened across a 56" blade that will bolt right onto the a-frame of my 42" plow. Has anyone tried this large of a blade with the C series? I am amid the resto of a C-165 Auto. I have the WH cast front weights (I think 35lb ea), and bolens cast rear weights (I think 55 lb ea) and 2 link chains. I also plan on adding 80lb of cement weights to the rear. If I get some cash I will be using V61 5 ribs in the front and Kenda K502's on the rear (with 520 rims). Will this tractor be able to handle that much blade, or will I get tossed around like a rag doll? We rarely see 12" or more but sometimes our 4-6" can be icy. Do I just need to start throwing weight on here (bolt lead to the frame) to get traction up? Thoughts? Edited March 31, 2014 by bmsgaffer
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,499 #2 Posted March 31, 2014 Back in 1974 and 1975 they listed a 56" blade for the C-160's. It's in this chart Garry
bmsgaffer 2,053 #3 Posted March 31, 2014 I have looked at that chart a LOT and never noticed that! Thanks! So i guess is possible if you are crazy enough to try it? I am hoping there have been a few of you that have tried this already.
Hodge71 665 #4 Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) I have used a 56" on my 416. It worked great in normal snowfalls. Once I got over 6 inches or so, it fought to push, especially if the snow was very heavy. Speed played a very important role in using this blade I can tell you that. I plowed wide open and balls out and it did better. Snow rolled off better and tractor kept forward motion. My D likes the plow much better as it weighs close to twice a C series. I would definitely put it on a hydro lift tractor though. I bet the moldboard weighs 80 pounds by itself....I do have a movie somewhere with it plowing Edited April 1, 2014 by hodge71
leeave96 490 #5 Posted April 1, 2014 I agree with hodge71 - probably in normal snowfall would work great. Ought to make quick work of light fluffy snow too! Most important is you must buy this blade as it is another irreplaceable tool for your snow removal arsenal... ;)
ericj 1,579 #6 Posted April 8, 2014 just found this thread, i have used the 56" plow several time and like to keep it on or for 1 of my horses. but if the snow is heavy it will push the tractor. if the snow is heavy i will use a 42" plow. i have at least 1 of each plows 42" 48" and the 56"with all my tractors i think i can have i of each ready to go when the snow starts to fly. hopefully no more this year anymore though eric j
