ABrown 0 #1 Posted March 31, 2014 I am going to look at a 417a tonight. Owner says if you jump the solenoid it will run for 15 seconds then dies. 1700 hours but pictures look very clean. My questions after researching this unit are this. My first guess is to check the safety switches and ignition switch for the running issue. does that sound right? Is there a lever so I can disengage the tranny and push it onto my trailer? I can't find much info on repowering these, Are they hard to repower for some reason or other? And the KT17sII look to be getting hard/expensive to find parts for to rebuild. is that the case or have I just not looked hard enough? Thanks, Adam
boovuc 1,090 #2 Posted March 31, 2014 The 417A should have an Eaton 1100 transmission, (guys correct me if I'm wrong), so you can move it slowly if you engage the motion lever forward before pushing it. If a safety switch is messed up, it shouldn't fire at all in most cases. If it fires up then dies after 15 seconds, I would look at fuel delivery first. (Check for spark after it dies just to be sure). All the KT series engines are expensive to rebuild. Parts are still available for them though. There are also plenty of used parts too. If that motor has that many hours, there is a good chance it may have already been rebuilt or at least had the top end done over at one time. Again...........a chance it was already rebuilt. The Series II's were much more reliable.
rexman72 210 #3 Posted March 31, 2014 boovuc you are correct in it has an eaton 1100 tranny and you can move it around.1700 hours scares me a bit though.make sure its a KT2 series engine which would make it an 1986 tractor.
ABrown 0 #4 Posted April 1, 2014 Went and looked at the 417 tonight. The guy had let it sit outside all winter with ethanol gas and no stabil and he was shocked when it wouldnt fire. I couldnt bring myself to pay anywhere close to what he was asking so I walked away. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Pickle 43 #5 Posted April 1, 2014 My 1985 417A also has a KT17 series II engine. Some new parts are difficult to source.
