New wheelhorse owner with a question or two

Recommended Posts

brushybarry

Howdy all, I just picked up a 96 wheelhorse 314-8 with mowing deck for $300. The tractor is in great shape, starts easy and purrs like a kitten. I do need a spindle for the deck though and am not having any luck finding one. Where is a good place online to find parts for the wheelhorse tractors? I would also like to find a tiller for it so I guess my best bet is to just keep an eye on classifieds for one right? I will get some pics of it hopefully this evening when I get home. Thanks yall

AMC RULES

Try placing a "wanted"  ad for the deck spindle you need in the :rs: classifieds.

There are a couple on the Classified now they fit a 42" or 48" deck the only difference is the double drive pulley is different between the two decks.

Welcome to RS!!!!

You have a GREAT tractor!!!!

Some things to know - your tractor has a 14 hp Kohler Magnum engine = no points, condenser, etc.

Your tranny is very strong as it is an 8 pinion version and it has 1-1/8 inch axles.

As you get into these tractors, you will read/learn about this stuff - IMHO, you got one of the best tractors Wheelhorse ever made.

Finding a spindle should be no problem - post a want add and do the same for a tiller.

How some pics?!?!?!?

Good luck,

Bill

You don't necessarily have a 1996 deck as the basic design was the same since the mid-70's.

1996 42" side discharge ipl

1996 48" side discharge ipl

DOC in Kentucky

I have a  nice deck and tiller that will work with your tractor. I bought a used 417a about 7 years ago with both attachments and have never mounted or used either one.  And I am not that far from you and could possible meet in Lexington as I am always going there for one thing or another. Send me your email and I will try to get some pics to you this weekend.

Doc will probably have all you need. There is a idler that mounts under the tractor and a belt will run from the PTO under the tractor to a pulley on the tiller.
