Found a good deal on a tractor, deck and blade. Previous owner thinks it has a broken rod. No problem as I've got a decent spare that's the correct engine. 2a2y3e7a.jpg

Current motor has a two pulley generator, flywheel pulley and belt guard. Will learn more when I pull it in the garage tomorrow.

Very nice, the sheet metal and paint look good in the pic. I have a C-101 that runs great.

I have a 1979 c-101-8 with original engine, who knows how many hours? Mowed grass and plowed 2 drives for over 30 years with out a problem, just put the bushing in the carb. though, makes her run even better. Do the oil changes and don't spare the grease and they will last and last. She is now my winter plow tractor and my 1989 414-8 is the grass cutter, won't need a tractor for a long time.

That tractor look great like it was always garage kept. Will you be pulling into the motor to see what's exactly wrong?

Thanks guys. Looks like this might have been a short block replacement engine at one time. The tractor has a few areas of surface rust and some areas that look like the battery leaked and ate the paint off. The blade is in very nice shape.

I do intend to pull the engine and investigate. I'll first check the flywheel key to rule that out before I split the case. No matter what I find, I'll swap the engine from my other c-81 ( which needs a re-build) to this one. Looks like the old one will become my parts tractor.

I do have one question. What's the best source for the rubber motor mounts?

That's a good looking C81. I love mine. They are hard to beat with their features (heavy duty rear, fuel tank under the seat, C series styling). Nice choice!

Finally got to look this thing over. Looks like the po painted some rusted areas with silver paint. Rusted areas look to be from battery acid. The PTO needs some adjustment and the mule drive was stuck on the front carrier. Don't understand why, but the mule drive is about 3/16" too narrow.

Still haven't got into the engine yet. There's a 800 commando transmission taking up valuable bench space right now.

McMaster-Carr (?) has a good selection of rubber iso mounts. C-81's are a very nice machine. As long as you got to overhaul it, consider replacing your Kohler with the proper one.
