couple of questions

I have a 520 hc and I am looking to buy some parts for it. Any recommended vendors/sites? Next question is tougher(well for me at least, you peeps may know it already). On the left side of the tractor is the fuel line. There is a small box mounted to the side of the tractor which has the fuel lines hooked up to, one goes back to the gas tank and the other heads to the gas filter line and then carb. I am assuming this is a fuel pump but am not sure.

Long story short it has one unused port that is capped. This piece of plastic broke off. I tried reattaching without success and figure I might as well replace it before the grass starts  growing.

What is this part? Where can I get a new one?

Thanks in advance for any help

Dave

Yes that is a vacuum fuel pump and it has one outlet capped on the top.

You should be able to find a cap to fit at most any Auto Parts Store.

unfortunately I broke the plastic nipple off the body of the pump. That is why I am looking for the replacement part. I was trying to disconnect the gas line and snapped it.....

So I found this one on ebay, does not look exactly like the original but description says it is used for my tractor.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-TORO-ONAN-FUEL-PUMP-FITS-520-8-520-H-TRACTORS-57-9080-149-1982-OEM-/151125453466?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item232fc76a9a

Any other places where I can find parts. I looked on home page under vendors as well.

And ouchies, that is pricey!

It won't help this time, but next time use a single edge raiser blade to slit the tubing to keep from braking the plastic. Tubing is cheaper then pumps.

Some of the members have used electric fuel pumps. Try the search above for "Electric Fuel Pump".

i bought an onan motor the other week and it had the extra port broken. i didn't pay a hole lot for the motor so i figured i didn't have much to loose and i JB welded it. let it sit for a few minutes and put gas to it and it worked as it should WIN , don't happen very often it is nice when it does. all by the way when i tried to start it before repairing it, it leaked gas every were. good luck

Thanks for all the advice. After seeing the price of a new fuel pump I started thinking how I could jerry-rig it. So I dug through my misc. screw pile and found a machine screw which barely fit. I applied seal all to the threads and screwed it into body of pump and let it sit. A few hours later I tried to start mower and BINGO it ran with no leaks. Yes it is a hap hazard repair, but no leaks and running mower is a win so far. Will have to watch it before every summer cut though!

I use an inexpensive ($20) 3 port Briggs and Stratton vacuum fuel pump mounted on the side of the dash tower.  Almost any vacuum fuel pump will work.  A purist will stick with the ONAN pump and people who are tired of dealing with vacuum fuel pumps with diaphragms that eventually fail switch to electric fuel pumps.  I am on my third vacuum fuel pump in 3 years.  One of the new ones I bought failed after a few hours of use.
