Bought another one... ROAD TRIP!!!!

Recommended Posts

bell

Well, I bought a 603.... It even comes with the original moldboard plow.... Problem is that it is in PA... and I'm in Indiana.

Not a big deal, but I would like to take my wife's Dodge Caliber. It gets MUCH better fuel mileage than my Avalanche....

My question is, if I take off the wheels and tires.... and possibly the steering wheel, will it fit in here?

caliber.jpg

The door opening is 27-1/2" tall and 33-1/2 wide. It is 5' deep, so that shouldn't be a problem...

Can someone measure their (similar) tractor and tell me some dimensions?

I know that if I take it FAR ENOUGH apart, it will fit.... But, I would like to just take off the wheels/ tires and the steering wheel and go.....

Thanks, Jon

Well the wheels/tires should come off with no trouble but I wouldnt count on the steering wheel just "popping off" when ya get there. Usually something that old would need some time (days/weeks) soakin with PB Blaster or something like that to get it loose.

Cant help with measurement, sorry.

Mike.........

I guess I could take the whole hoodstand off and go that route... Should be easier than taking off the steering wheel....

The hoodstand won't come off because it's welded to the frame. :USA:

If you have to make it even more compact after removing all 4 wheels & tires, unbolt the transaxle from the frame and split it into two smaller pieces. 4 bolts and a a few cotter pins should be all you need to remove. :banghead:

:banghead: and perhaps a bit snide but.... :omg:

I get such a laugh out of SUV's. We have a mini van and WH's fit right in. Probably gets better mileage than most SUV's.

A friend has an Escalade and getting in and out of the mini van is easier, it is more comfortable and gets better mileage.

I wonder if you could drain the gas and lay it on it's side?

Anyway, best of luck. :USA:

Just might stop by... I'll let you know ahead of time though.

I will probably just wait on the 551... It is supposed to be in Kokomo in October, sometime.... If I drive my truck, it's gonna cost me $300 in fuel.... It gets 17-ish mpg and the car gets 28-ish mpg.... DARN fuel prices..... :USA:

Hey TT,

You pull this off, ie 2 tractors in a small car, we definitely want pictures. :omg:

Better yet, how about a video.

I have pictures in my head of an old type black and white movie but instead of a bunch of clowns getting out, we see someone pulling endless tractor parts out for hours. :banghead:

This has the potential of being a real classic. :USA:

Yep.

I can make it into a pile of pieces if you want. I think the car should be OK with the weight too.

I think it will fit with the tires on it, and when you get it home I'm going to bug you for some detailed pic's for my 603, here's a pic of mine in the back of my suburban fits with room to spare, I can run a yard stick around my 603 so you know for sure.

All I know is that it IS gonna fit, if I have to take it all apart... lol

I'll take plenty of pics when I get it home. :banghead:

I would appreciate some measurements, if it's not too much trouble..... JB

I feel your pain in using your truck to haul a find like this back home. With fuel cost the way they are, even a free tractor can become rather expesive. I have considered putting a hitch on little Pontiac Vibe to pull my small UT trailer to pickup such finds in the future. I don't need a 1 ton 4x4 to bring home a 500 to 850 lb tractor. Best of luck fitting this your wifes car. (Better not scatch it)........ The tractor that is :banghead:
