I need a connecting rod just want your guys input on which one to get aftermarket or oem

I have used both and see no difference. However, for your K301, should the crankshaft need to be turned to .020" undersize, I don't think Kohler makes one, and aftermarket is your only choice.

The aftermarket ones I found are with a year warranty so that makes me feel better and the crank doesn't need turned its in real good shape so what aftermarket brand is better or doesn't it matter

The last one I used was from BBT Power Parts. Made in Taiwan, but what isn't? That was in 2011, and I sold the tractor, but the buyer tells me it is still going strong.

ive used an aftermarket rebuild set and worked the 12 horse very hard for a few years now,im happy so far

The connecting rod on a Kohler is the most important part of the engine. Nearly  every time I have  found a blown up Kohler, it is a broken rod. I have never used a aftermarket rod, only OEM, but thats just IMO.
