WH nut 553 #2 Posted March 8, 2014 Personal choice. I have had no problems with aftermarket.
rmaynard 16,372 #3 Posted March 8, 2014 I have used both and see no difference. However, for your K301, should the crankshaft need to be turned to .020" undersize, I don't think Kohler makes one, and aftermarket is your only choice.
Larry Chamberlain 22 #4 Posted March 8, 2014 The aftermarket ones I found are with a year warranty so that makes me feel better and the crank doesn't need turned its in real good shape so what aftermarket brand is better or doesn't it matter
rmaynard 16,372 #5 Posted March 8, 2014 The last one I used was from BBT Power Parts. Made in Taiwan, but what isn't? That was in 2011, and I sold the tractor, but the buyer tells me it is still going strong.

520HC 208 #7 Posted March 9, 2014 The connecting rod on a Kohler is the most important part of the engine. Nearly every time I have found a blown up Kohler, it is a broken rod. I have never used a aftermarket rod, only OEM, but thats just IMO.
