Onan 16 blowing oil

Recommended Posts

I have a chance to pick up a 416-8 from a guy I know well. He bought a 0-turn and his son was helping with the 416. Onan was running well but when the engine was shut off,oil started running out of the flywheel area.I don't think  a front seal would give up like that but who knows. Tractor was babied all it's life and sounds like it's in decent shape. it's been parked a year and he wants rid of it. Any ideas?  :confusion-confused:

You would have to take the cover off to see. Could be the oil filter, oil pump, oil pressure switch etc. lots of leak points in this area.

I have never had a major leak on that side, PTO side yes, if the price is right buy it.

Mike,

you havent picked it up yet!?  I really like the power of the Onan with a 8 speed tranny.  obviously not a 520-8 but close!

I got lucky with mine, replaced the engine oil filter and that fixed my problem. It wasn't making a good seal. There is also a gasket for the oil filter, but more likely the oil filter if it's leaking from that area. Pull the shroud off and that should give you a better idea of what's going on.

He still hasn't decided if he really want's it gone or not. Real busy guy works 50-60 hrs. every week. When spring hits and he's cleaning out the garage he may decide then.
