Wheel horse 227-5 weird problem

Recommended Posts

Hello guys.

I went to go amd give my tractor a ride around and it was all going fine everything on the engine was working until all of a sudden I went to rev it up amd it didn't rev up if sounded like it wasn't getting any air amd then shuts off but idle is fine, so I continued to try to see if to would work and it didn't, so I took of the air cleaner to see if that would work and it didn't so I got out some carb start and sparked it directly in to see of ot would clean it oit but that didn't work either so I tried Adjusting the mixture either way and that didn't work so I put the tractor back and started to put this post up so some of you guys could help or if you have had this happen to you or to someone on the forum before

Thank you for helping
James

If you are certain it's not fuel starvation, then it's either not enough air- but you've taken the air filter off...

Or a weak spark, so poor spark plug or faulty coil/condenser.

Can you not get it to rev at all?

Last thing, check the governor and linkage/spring. You might be fighting against that when you try open the throttle.

I'll have another look tomorrow with what you said it isn't the governor spring as I tested it by revving it straight from the carb no it won't even increase the rpms a little

James, I'd start by disconnecting the tacho cable from the electronic ignition module to isolate it from the equation. I know you had it running fine with the tacho connected but if something's happened on the circuit board inside the tacho then it could really upset the timing. Even if disconnecting it makes no difference - leave it off for now until you find the fault.

Check the fuel supply to the carb by disconnecting the pipe to it. (no naked flames about for this) Crank the engine and pulses of fuel should come out of the pipe - if it doesn't then fuel pump may be faulty or filter on the fuel shut off valve in the tank may be blocked. If there's a good supply there but nothing much in the carb float chamber then the float needle valve could be getting stuck closed.

I assume you dismantled and cleaned the carb during doing up the tractor but you ought to check this again and as has been sugested watch the operation of the linkages as you operate the throttle (engine doesn't need to be running) you're looking to see that the choke comes on at full throttle (start position) and that it goes off again when the throttle is taken back, that opening the throttle from idle position is opening the butterfly etc. Check the carb is sealed against the manifold etc. There's no quick fix I'm afraid, you just have to work methodically through all the possible culprits.

Haven't had time to look yet but I will tommorow and will do what you say.

Thank you for the input
