876wheelhorse 46 #1 Posted March 3, 2014 Im really believing this tractor has a black cloud over it. Last week it had a wiring problem it burnt up. So after all week of research of how to rewire it and all the parts I needed to get to get it going again it fired up yesterday no problem ran great. I had to have it suppose to have a snow storm. Cool it runs goes put a couple hours on it everything great. I put new ign switch and solenoid all 14ga wire. I wired it up just for the 5 on switch rectifier battery starter lights and coil. Pulled all old wire out didnt hook up safety switches (I know dumb). So yesterday ran great started with key NO ISSUES at all. Last night snows I need it go out sit on tractor hit key and clicks clicks clicks. So i pull off brand new solenoid take it back to parts store got a new one come home hook everything up and click click click. So I check grounds all hooked up not loose pulled all wires off switch did continuity test on them all good. So is this a starter now? any more help be great I about know this thing top to bottom...........
Desko 624 #2 Posted March 3, 2014 Bad battery maybe??
boovuc 1,090 #3 Posted March 3, 2014 Is it possible that it wasn't charging your battery all the time you were running it and after you shut it off, it won't start????? Jump it or charge the battery up and try to fire it. Once started, put a Volt/Ohm Meter, (VOM), on the battery terminals and see if it's reading more than 12 VDC. It could be gobs of issues but I think this would be the first thing I would look at and eliminate as a culprit.
chazm 413 #4 Posted March 3, 2014 Bad battery maybe?? Like Desko said, his would be a starting point, Need to load test battery,if you don't have tester, take it to AutoZone or other parts store they will check it for free. I would pull the starter & bench test as well. Look at starer drive gear & flywheel for damage too.

squonk 43,812 #7 Posted March 3, 2014 All it takes is one bad connection. When I got my C-160 it was delivered to me. It had never failed to start. When unloading it it was click click. Luckily for me and the seller I was standing on the left side of the tractor and saw a spark at the positive terminal from the battery on the solenoid. I got a pair of pliers and squeezed the wire crimp on the wire terminal. 4 years later it always starts
oldredrider 2,553 #8 Posted March 3, 2014 Check the engine ground to shaker plate connection. Those connection points can get weak and cause a problem starting.
876wheelhorse 46 #9 Posted March 4, 2014 Checked all grounds pulled starter and the shaft wouldn't even turn I had to really twist to move it. So now looking for a starter

rmaynard 16,297 #12 Posted March 4, 2014 I picked up a brand new aftermarket starter on Ebay for less than $40.00 delivered. My local motor repair shop wouldn't even look at it for less than that.
