New old stock drive belts any good?

Recommended Posts

Jrblanke

Periodically I see new old stock (unused but original) belts for sale. These could be drive belts, deck belts, etc. Are they still good after all these years or is it better to buy a new belt with the same dimensions.

Thanks,

James

So long as the NOS was not exposed to the elements, they would be good-to-go.  In any case, they'd be fa-rand-away better than some off-the-wall after market belt.

I bought a dozen or so from a dealer going out of business over 15 years ago. Who knows how long he had them. I have used 4 or 5 of them with no problems. There a little stiff but they loosen up. If your only talking a few cents to maybe a dollar or two difference then I would buy new. If it is substantial savings then go for it.

Considering that a lot of belts are still the original on tractors and well over 30 years old sure should be ok to use.

Some of them are like gold!   If you can find them.

Definitely not afraid to use an NOS belt. Like they say a little stiff but they definitely do the job. Especially if they are no longer available!
