doc724 925 #1 Posted February 21, 2014 So I have this 98 314-8 that is in pretty good condition except for the seat which has several tears. I have used Gorilla Tape as a quick fix to keep it from deteriorating further while I look for a replacement. After spending well over 2 hours searching just about every internet site I can find or think of, I have come up empty-why? because this has the most unusual bolt pattern. The pattern is 5.75 wide x 7.75 tall. I have not found anything remotely close. This same seat was used on the 96 314 until maybe the end of production (it did not check past the 98 year). I think it was used on the lawn tractors, 267, 268, 269 as well. Michigan Seat (now Milsco) was the OEM supplier, but a check of their distributors as well as the usual other locations (TSC, Northern Equipment, K&M Manufacturing and several others) has resulted in nothing. So, any of you out there with late model WH machines-what have you done?

Tankman 3,523 #4 Posted February 23, 2014 I use Tractor Supply, the seats have multiple mounting threaded inserts. Fine for the price. http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/high-back-steel-pan-lawn-tractor-seat
MalMac 1,332 #5 Posted February 23, 2014 Wow, I did not know they had changed the seat configuration. The newest I have is a 94. Like said you could make a adapter plate or you could change out the seat support with the older style and get some of the big U springs. They are readily available. Then you would be able to find a seat with no problem. That is what I would do. Then your set if you ever have to replace it again.
doc724 925 #6 Posted February 23, 2014 After reading your responses and studying this a bit, I have come to the conclusion that making two adapter "bars" v. a plate will be the most cost effective solution. I am thinking about 2 inch by 1/4 bar stock of appropriate length. Two through holes in each one to pick up the mounting locations of the new (aftermarket) seats and then two 5/16-18 tapped holes to match the spacing on the current seat pan. The newer WH seat configurations allow you to adjust the seat position without the use of tools (quite handy when your spouse has shorter legs) while the older styles require you to loosen/tighten 4 bolts. Thanks to all who responded.
