Antiquated 3 #1 Posted February 15, 2014 (edited) Unfortunately I haven't really used my tractor all winter but I fired the C-145 the other day and noticed my PTO is spinning even when the lever is disengaged. Also when I engage the PTO it makes a ticking noise that sounds really bad. This isn't normal, right? I do have the mower deck removed with the PTO belt just hanging down free away from the pullies. I'm not sure what's going on and I don't have a heated garage to dig into it further. I just thought I'd run it by the experts. bowtieguy 334 #2 Posted February 15, 2014 What?...with all this snow and you have not used that tractor and snow blade?....you better call me so I can help you...don't think you have a problem with the PTO...you probably need to adjust the little braking pads so it will stop turning....I am assuming you don't have the mowing deck mounted? PS...let me know if you want to sell it!...you got my number!
boovuc 1,090 #3 Posted February 15, 2014 It is somewhat normal for it to spin while disengaged and especially with no drag on it as in nothing at all on the PTO bell like a belt but a ticking noise that, as you say, sounds really bad is not normal.
Antiquated 3 #4 Posted February 15, 2014 Frank, I tried to use it on the first snow but without chains and the ice underneath, I was unsuccessful. Then I got my chains, thanks by the way, and one of my rear tires went flat. I plugged it but it's still not holding air very well. It's just dry rotted and needs replaced. I'm kind of waiting on spring to do that. I don't do well fixing things outside when it's as cold as it's been. And there's no way I'm selling my tractor! It's a labor of love.
