stevasaurus 23,274 #2 Posted February 15, 2014 They make an epoxy that has aluminum fillers that you can drill and tap. Metalset A4 They may have it at places like Autozone or NAPA. https://www.google.com/search?q=metalset+a4&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=np&source=hp
WheelHorse79 271 #3 Posted February 16, 2014 Some have actually had the two piece gas tank welded into 1 piece so that it will never leak again. It's aluminum so it takes special skill and equipment.
Kelly 1,033 #4 Posted February 16, 2014 You could drill it out, and epoxy a brass insert in the hole
Tankman 3,523 #5 Posted February 16, 2014 Gettin' old, forget what size thread do you need for the hood hold-down? I'm thinkin'. Take a bolt, cutoff bout half an inch of thread (or a short piece of all thread). Drill 'n tap center of the short piece (1/4-20 (?)). I.E.: 1/2-13 x 1/2" long all thread, center tapped hole (whatever size you require). Tap the tank 1/2-13 and install the insert using Threadlocker® red. Use Threadlocker® blue for your threaded hood hold-down. Been many years since I owned a Horse with the aluminum gas tank.
sorekiwi 761 #6 Posted February 16, 2014 Its been a while since I looked at a one piece tank, but it might be possible to put a Timesert in there. They come in an extra big oversize as well, McMaster has them if you cant find them locally. WheelHorse79 - the '62 model tanks were one piece, going to the 2 piece tank for '63 on was one of the stupidest things that Wheel Horse ever did.
