417-A and 418-A

Recommended Posts

Would any of you know if there's a chance that parts from the 417 would fit the 418 or are they two entirely different beasts?  I suspect the engines are different but if the chassis and transmissions are alike, one could put one to work and save the other to keep it running.

Thanks - Cod

Other than the engines the two machines are the same.

417-A's & 8 speeds were KT-17 Kohlers. The 418's were a Magnum Kohler. That is the engine difference.

When I bought my 418A new in 1987, the dealer handed me a 417A Owners Manual. I told him he gave me the wrong one. He said no 418A manuals were available. It was the same tractor except for the engine.

One difference.  The Magnums were magneto ignitions, the KT17s were battery.  Be careful about wiring and ignition switches.
