1974-B-80 52 #1 Posted February 9, 2014 The other day I ran my B-80 and for some reason it was smoking a lot and knocking more than it usually does, but it started to squeak so I quickly shut it off. I checked it all over and I found out there was no oil and I was afraid it was stuck. So I put SAE 30, but by that time it was too dark to start it since I had to charge the battery, but I put some PB Blaster in the cylinder hoping that if the engine was stuck it would free it up. The next day I turned the flywheel and it turned so I charged the battery and it started, but now I think it really should be rebuilt now. Its like it had 50 yrs. of wear on the engine in 5 minutes without the oil and the rings probably scored the cylinder, but does anyone have a rebuild kit or tell me where to order a whole rebuild kit? rmaynard 16,363 #3 Posted February 9, 2014 You can order new Kohler and/or aftermarket kits on eBay, Amazon.com, or from your local NAPA autoparts dealer if you have one in your neighborhood. Other places to order can be found by doing a Google or other search. Just use the key word "K181 rebuild kit" when making the inquiry. Just as a reference, I bought my Kohler brand K181 complete overhaul gasket kit on eBay for $20.00 delivered. That was a bargain, but bargains can be found. Fordiesel69 271 #6 Posted February 10, 2014 Most, but not every case, you will have damage to the connecting rod, and crank pin. The cylinder will usually survive. Measure it, and resize to a .010 is needed. It was probably worn out anyways, burned thru the oil you had in it, and seized up. I know each any every peice of equipment I own and if and how much oil it uses. However somtimes it can catch you off guard. So I check oil every time now.
