Well, its hard to say what you don't know... But the collective knowledge of this forum has blown me away. If you ask a specific question in the right section then I'm sure there is someone here that can help you!

if you have up and down movement in the steering shaft there are a few places to check.......

first are we talking about the lower horizontal shaft or upper one that the steering wheel attaches to?

lower, two places to look.......

there is a replaceable bushing (6397) at the slotted nut end of the shaft and the flanged bushing at the other end is replaceable. (6472)

and the upper shaft that the steering wheel attaches to......

i replaced the factory arrangement here with a 6472. under this circled area you would have a cotter pin through the shaft or a locked collar that is used to limit the amount of travel up and down. there are washers to take up the gap here on the shaft. if none, some could be added here or if a locked collar it could be snugged up against the bearing.... usually older well used tractors have a lot of sideways movement here as well. and replacement of the bearing/ fixing of the hogged out hood stand hole is needed. my fix with the 6472 bearing took care of this sideways movement....

not sure what you mean by poping. do you have noise in the gears? sometimes an adjustment and lube does wonders. after the slop is taken out that is........
