608KEB 796 #1 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) I noticed that my snowthrower 86-42ST01 vibrates some. I replaced all 4 bearings and put a cast iron pulley on it last fall. I would have thought that's just how the snowthrowers are. But I have another snowthrower at the farm I use. It has no vibration at all. It runs smooth as silk! Looking for a few tips to solve this issue Edited January 26, 2014 by 608KEB
Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted January 26, 2014 Make sure there are no bent shafts, or the auger is not running true.
608KEB 796 #3 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) I'll look at the shaft. I wasn't sure but now that you mention that. The drive shaft may have a slight wobble to it. I replaced the drive shaft pulley, because I thought the old one wobbled. The new bearings helped quite a bit. Would I take the shaft off and roll it on a smooth surface to see if it is straight? Yep, you got the right idea
608KEB 796 #5 Posted January 27, 2014 I should have read through a few more posts. I didn't realize that the shaft could be bent that easy with a rock. I didn't even think of that as a possibility as to why the shaft was bent. Thanks
Hydro 131 #6 Posted January 31, 2014 They boosted the newer models to a 7/8" shaft diameter maybe that is why. My 94 need a drive pulley, chain shaft bearings and idlers. The auger bearings were good. No wobble or vibration but I can tell after several hours of running everything has to be true or else.
608KEB 796 #7 Posted March 22, 2014 Well I solved the problem. I changed the auger out and no more vibration!
