Hey folks  Could someone tell me if a 38" side discharge mower deck off a 1983 c85 will fit on my1986 414-8.  The 414-8 currently has a 42" side discharge.  Thanks  Mike

Both are Tach-A-Matics so the answer is yes.

I agree with Maynard.  However, the PTO belt MAY be different as the center pulley may be in a slightly different position (relative to the front of the tractor). Go to Partstree or Jacks Small Engine and put in the model number for each deck and see what is the P/N for the PTO belt.  Even if they are different, there may be enough adjustment in the front tach a matic to make it work.

you mean a 37" deck ?? if so it will fit but if you have the 8" front tires the left front tire will rub the deck, that is why all tractors that had the 37" deck came with 6" front tires and the long spindles.

Kelly, that is an interesting tidbit of information.  Is it only the 37 inch deck that is the problem?  Reason for asking is that on my C141 that has 8 inch tires, the 36 inch RD deck (that came with it) fits just fine with no rubbing.  Do you know what is unique about the 37 inch deck that makes it a problem child?  thx

The 37" deck sets at an angle under the tractor with the left side forward.

The 37" deck is a 2 blade deck, and the deck is built on a angle with the left blade farther forwards than the right blade, that is why the left tire hits the deck, no other decks have this issue.

Thanks, I don't think I have ever seen one of these mongrel decks.  Makes you wonder what was Wheel Horse thinking when they came out with this.  The 36 inch deck was just fine.  I cannot believe that one less spindle paid for all the fixed costs for tooling this up.  Anyway, thanks to Kelly and Don1977 for the education.

Now Doc! Don't go calling that deck a mongrel!  :)

The 37" SD deck is, IMHO, the best cutting deck that WH made in their line of GT's.

I'll put up with the squirrelly  front tires any day! I just wouldn't want to try to mow large tracks with that small of a deck!
