Kohler K181 and Magnum 8

Recommended Posts

Tom.

Hi,

I was wondering if I could "convert" magnum 8 kohler engine to a k181 by changing the sheet metal? I know the magnum has a different type if ignition system too. I will also be wanting to use my starter generator on the magnum 8, is this possible?

I'd appreciate any help as I'm a bit stuck on what to do!

Tom

in short story, No There is no place to mount the points on a magnum. You would need to change the flywheel and that takes the front cover and magneto out of the picture.

Somebody told me today you can make the K181 into electronic ignition with a coil like the Briggs uses. Is that true?

Yes, but you need the correct coil and flywheel,   it still uses the points to trigger it.
