GT-14 Questions

Recommended Posts

leeave96

I read/see a goodly amount of posts on the GT-14, but really don't know much about them.

Are they a "big" C series, sharing engines, tranny's, etc or completely different like the D series?

What years were they sold? Where did they fit in he Wheelhorse line-up who was the targeted user?

What were the desirable features and what aspects of the tractor drive the owner/restorer crazy?

Do decks, blades, etc interchange with the C series? Clevis or 3 pt rear hitch - hydro or manual lift?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Bill

I guess you could say they are a big C-140 hydro. Engine is interchangeable with all horses, some ancillaries are different...

Hubs and wheels are different, 15" on the rear. Some had the optional 3 point linkage fitted, making them pretty versatile and desirable.

GT's in Europe are pretty thin on the ground and it's hard to find tidy working examples.

I love my GT but at the moment you couldn't say it was tidy or working!

Bill,  the GT 14  is bigger in size than a C series & smaller than the D ,

Its attachments are designed to only fit the GT14 & are not interchangeable with any of the other wheelhorses.

they were made between 69 to 73

They are an extremaly good heavy duty tractor & are very desirable both here in Europe & in US

If you have the oportunity to buy one i would highly recommend them , they are one of my favorite & anyone that owns one would probably say the same . But any wheelhorse is a good tractor in my opinion .

The ply known problem that i know of with the GT14 is that thefuel tanks tend to melt as they are made of plastic & are very close to the heat from the exhaust .

The gearbox is a very stong  sundstrand hydro gearbox .

all in all a good work horse
