JamesC-120 204 #1 Posted January 15, 2014 I just rebuilt a kohler k301 and did these things bored, new rod and ground crack journal, valve job, new piston and rings, new valve guides, bearings. and i just put it all back together nad at idle i hear this ticking noise coming from the engine and can not figure out what it is and have tried everything. The main reason for rebuild was to get rid of the noise. If you could help me that would be great. Thanks
rmaynard 14,932 #2 Posted January 15, 2014 Did your K301 have balancing gears? If so, did you put them back in or throw them away?
JamesC-120 204 #3 Posted January 15, 2014 I took them out
rmaynard 14,932 #4 Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) The ticking could be the centrifugal weights on the ACR. Edited January 15, 2014 by rmaynard
illinilefttackle 399 #5 Posted January 15, 2014 Was the crank journal ground to the (actual) size of the rod-or just grind crank to a certain size-then order rod too that size? You would be surprised the difference. Does it "tick" only under no-load?-Al
JamesC-120 204 #6 Posted January 15, 2014 I had it ground exact .010 under and you can only hear it at idle around 1200 rpm
Fordiesel69 226 #7 Posted January 15, 2014 Make a video so we can hear it. Are you sure the valves are set right? I have often had to reset them after running the engine for a bit.
