D-200 Value

Recommended Posts

RJMcEachern

Hello,

I am going to go look at a D-200 today, it is locally listed (east central Illinois) in the town newspaper for sale. I am curious about the value of one of these, there is a 3pt hitch, no PTO, no attachments and no mower deck. This is apparently just the D-200 with a 3pt hitch and nothing else. Owner says it runs good, and is supposed to send me some pics today, will add them if I can later today.

I know that value is what somebody is willing to pay for an item, I am just looking for a general fair price for this piece of equipment. What are some things to check for when looking this thing over?

Some questions I have are how durable is this model, I currently have a 518-H that I use to mow 3 acres of our property with and it has a snow/dozer blade with wheel weights and tire chains. Love it, but looking for something I can add attachments to so I can start a large garden (instead of the small manual one I have now), so I am looking for a good one to add tiller, plow, etc.

Thanks for any input

You need the PTO to run a tiller off a D200.  The lever on the left of the dash engages a mechanical (not electric) PTO on the front of the engine.  The PTO drives a belt that turns a front to back PTO shaft.under the tractor.  The tiller hooks up to the 2,000 rpm category 0 rotating shaft at the back of the tractor.  I believe all that was standard on the D200 along with the 3 point hitch.

If the engine starts and runs good you want to check out the hydraulics.  Let it run for awhile to warm up and test forward and reverse on a hill if possible to put a load on the pump.  Listen for whining and the louder it is under load the more it is worn.  The steering also tends to be sloppy but that can be tightened up.

Hard to put a price on it without knowing more but maybe $500 to $800 for a starting ball park figure.

These D series are the brutes of the herd and can turn out some work. But, as with anything they have a couple areas that require a good close look at.

The steering is based on a worm gear similar to a car - - called "Ross" steering. It is mounted in a rather thin housing that can and will break - and the case is getting hard to find. Repair parts are still around.

The drive is Sundstrand and it is getting old and some problems are showing up here again parts are getting scarce. If at all possible do a test drive with it warmed up, try to get it in a strain - pulling a hill, put against a tree and slowly ease the lever it should spin the tires with ease, anything to make it labor a bit.

Of course you'll want the engine to be good, but here this twin Kohler is pretty tough and if been treated right should be OK

Do be aware the Horse PTO turns at 2000rpm and a tiller for it is gonna have to be able to accept that -- most are 550rpm (I think?)

Love my D's

Thats good to know, thanks for the feedback!  :thanks:

So will most PTO attachments available on the market today hookup to them or will I need ot be concerned with anything else other than the 2k rpm of the PTO on the D-200?

Virtually nothing on the market today will work with the D200 PTO.  You will have to find WH attachments.  (Tiller, Finish mower etc.

Three point Cat Zero implements should fit OK but not ones that need a PTO

OOOOHHHH! That's good to know! Thanks alot

So how common or uncommon are the attachments for this model? Any interchangability with 518-H?

I dont think any attachment for your 518 will work on the "D" series machines (except a yard cart :eusa-whistle:  ).

The other weak spot in my opinion is where the engine couples with the hydro pump. Its a small splined shaft and it can get buggered up and is not an easy fix from what I have read. Some guys have tried to drill and pin it but I believe its a hardened shaft and not easily drilled.

I believe that the only attachment that's a cross over is the belly mower deck, and I think that require the correct "D" carriage. And a that the c195, 520, and xi 60" can be made to fit, I have seen the xi and 195 decks done, only heard of it being possible for the 520. Ooooooo and wheel weighs I think. Lol
