83 c165 snow blower help

So I was blowing snow today and I noticed that I was not throwing as far as normal and was also leaving a trail of blowback down the center of my blower. We have quit a bit of snow in Michigan right now so I thought that maybe I was working it a little to hard so I started taking 1/2 and 1/4 passes but this did not help. My belt appears to be in ok condition but it was slipping in the deep stuff. So I will get a new one tomorrow for starters. But also I noticed a tic, tic,tic noise coming from the drive chain in the blower itself and when I looked at that it seems to be very loose. So I figure the ticking noise was the chain links rubbing together. And last but not least I ended my day by the motor spitting and sputtering a bit then about 5 or 6 backfires so I turned of the pto to the snowblower then ran the engine at full speed and it seemed ok. Please help and thoughts would be helpfull.

Thanks, dewdew

The drive chain on the blower has an adjustment and can be tightened some...not much but some. The sputtering is a tough call, could be your getting moisture under the points cover with all the snow blowing you were doing. The blowback I have no advice for, sorry.

We'll I've decided to change my blower chain. But I can't find a length for it. Does anyone know? It's a 1997 300 series tall Shute.

Count the links and go to TSC and cut to fit. Don't forget to get a connector link and maybe a half link. I think its #40

How are the idler sprockets?  I have the same blower and mine were shot. TSC had the sprockets but they were slightly larger dia. I had to lengthen the stock chain size by one or two links.
