Torino 15 #1 Posted September 5, 2008 I cleaned the carb and it runs really smooth but when I go up a hill the engine seems to bog down as if the governor is not working. Instead of keeping the same rpm it slows. It also does this when I try to use the deck. It fine on level ground but bogs on any type of slope.
Buzz 502 #2 Posted September 5, 2008 Sounds like you still have carburetor problems. Did you replace or adjust the float when you had it apart? If the float isn't adjusted properly you will either starve for gas or flood out especially on hills.
DOC in Kentucky 178 #3 Posted September 6, 2008 I agree with Buzz. I had a very simular problem. The only difference is that I re-built the carb and then had problems on hills. I knew that the only thing different was the carb rebuild, so I took it apart and checked the float, re-adjusted it and Badda-bing, problem solved. Been running like a champ since early spring. Good luck :omg:
Torino 15 #4 Posted September 25, 2008 OK, I set the float being very careful to get it right. It runs great and there is constant power when I drive up or down hills but when I start the deck it still bogs down to about half power just sitting there. It's sort of like when you engage your deck and there is a moment the rpms drop but pick right back up. This just does not pick back up. I just cleaned the deck and every thing seemed to turn freely. Should I clean the carb again or look elsewhere? What about the governor?
bluetuna08 0 #5 Posted September 25, 2008 remove the deck and engage the PTO and eliminate that as a possibility for the drag...or prove that its the problem. under no load strobe the engine and see if its turning at 3600 rpm. engage mower deck and strobe it again. just my .
WheelHorse_of_course 99 #6 Posted September 25, 2008 I agree that it sounds a lot like the governor is not working. ANy chance the linkages did not get connected right when you put the carb back on? Take the hood off and watch the throttle on the top of the carb. You should see the governor give the throttle a kick when you engage the PTO and then settle back to a slightly wider position after wards. If you conclude the Governor is at fault don't mess with it till you have the info from the engine manual to check the linkages and recalibrate. Don't try to adjust it till you have done the above. Best of luck :USA:
Torino 15 #7 Posted September 30, 2008 Adjusted the spring to the governor from the throttle. Doing a hole lot better now. Thanks for the help.
