H 416H

Hi all,

I have a 1993 416H. When it sits for a period of time (3-4 days) when I start it the hydro will move the tractor but the hydraulic life to raise the blower doesn't work.

If it sits for 5-8 minutes then it raise the blower. Would appreciate anyone's thoughts.

Thanks,

Edwroy

how cold is the tractor where it is stored

what you are describing sounds normal if it is stored outside or in an unheated area.

Below is the cold weather starting instructions for a 1979 c series automatic

During cold weather, start the engine with the

parking brake engaged; on C-Series models also

lift up the transmission clutch lever. Run the

engine at full throttle for two minutes to allow

engine to warm-up and then engage the transmission

clutch by pushing the lever down. For

temperatures between 0 and 30F (- 18 and

-2C) allow the transmission to run in neutral

for 5 minutes before attempting to set the unit

into motion. For temperatures below (-18 °C)

allow the transmission to run in neutral for 10

minutes before attempting to set the unit in

motion . Failure to do so may result in extensive

inte rnal transmission damage.

i have a 416-H and a  520-H that i just change the trans fluid last year. the 520 i even used mobil 1, and im having the same problem , the tractor will move when started but will not lift for several minutes depending on how cold it is. when it is warm they will lift normal. i ask a dealer friend about this and he asked me what filter i used. i told him i used napa fitler # 1410, which is a hydraulic filter not a engine filter. he told me that he feels that the filter is to blame. he said it actually is to fine of a filter or over filters the oil hence restricting the flow he told me to switch to a toro filter. so when i get a chance to do this i will let you all know how i make out and if it makes a difference or not. may get a chance to do a filter swap in the next week or so

It is normal for the hydro to be sluggish in cold weather on very cold start-up. I think Toro had a service bulletin on this too and was discussed here on RS a few years ago. Don't recall if there was a oil viscosity change, but remember having to let the engine/tranny warm-up for a few minutes.

Nature of the beast, nothing to worry about. Mobil one will help some. Just let it warm up. Even using Toro filter it will still do it. Besides letting warm up is a good thing and your tractor will appreciate it and so will your wallet. You go forcing things when cold it will cost you. Kinda like getting out of bed on a cold morning. Your feet don't hit the floor and take off on a all out run, Well maybe if your 5 years old and it's Christmas morning. I think you get the drift here. Don't worry let it warm up.

Here is the operator manual if you don't have one

Page 6 has the transmission cold starting instructions.
