shallowwatersailor 3,214 #1 Posted December 28, 2013 On the road and bringing this home today from the mountains of Maryland. They regularly see snow out there, let's hope I do.
MalMac 1,332 #2 Posted December 28, 2013 (edited) Nice very nice, I think you will see snow. Seems that the snow storms come up south through Kentucky and then swing up toward the Northeast and on up the east coast now a days. Just don't get the snow up here in Northern Indiana anymore. When it does snow you got the stuff to handle it now besides that I know Coasties are prepared for anything. Especially after watching them at Cape "D". squonk 43,837 #4 Posted December 28, 2013 John, how much noise does your blower make? I had a rumble in mine and replaced the chain, sprockets. and all the bearings except for the auger. Now it sounds like a tornado. I don;t know if it's normal or not. Click on the pic.

shallowwatersailor 3,214 #7 Posted December 28, 2013 On the road and the new addition finally home mingling with part of the herd. The big guys are still in the garage. I think that it is ironic that I picked up a snow thrower on a 57 degree day in December. BUT - the forecast is for snow on Thursday! You can't beat U-Haul for cheap transportation I think that I am ready for winter now. I'll take a picture of the whole snow crew Monday, heavy rain is forecast for tomorrow. Maybe I can use my 48" squeegee. It is a 1989 520-H with 643 hours along with a 1997 42" snowthrower and a 42" RD mower deck that had been hanging on the wall for 15 years. I really did have my mask on for this one!

Rick_in_CT 156 #9 Posted December 28, 2013 Mike, I listened to your video. The whine from the blower is somewhat similar to what I had when the chain tension was too tight on my two stage. You may want to check the tension and try running a little looser and see if it quiets down. I was surprised how much the chain tension affected the noise level. Rick_in_CT 156 #10 Posted December 28, 2013 John, Nice find, congrats! Last weekend I made one of those wheel horse bandit runs. Left the house at 5:45AM in Connecticut for a run to western New Jersey, and back home by 11:30AM, 275 miles later.
shallowwatersailor 3,214 #11 Posted December 28, 2013 Fifteen years...does that deck look brand new John? When I looked at the tractor on Thursday, it was up in the garage loft hanging on the wall. Right now it is still in the bed of the truck. The paint isn't shiny, but there aren't any holes like my other 42" RD. It might just take some polishing as the paint looks good. The owner that I bought it from doesn't have a lawn, just lakefront property with trees. The original owner did use it but took care of it. I'm glad that it is a RD because of the Onan!

It took me eight hours today to do 335 miles. Surprisingly I actually got better mileage coming back with the load than going out empty. I had to climb over the Eastern Continental Divide. At least there wasn't snow like Thursday. John

JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,499 #14 Posted December 29, 2013 John, how much noise does your blower make? I had a rumble in mine and replaced the chain, sprockets. and all the bearings except for the auger. Now it sounds like a tornado. I don;t know if it's normal or not. Click on the pic. My single stage makes a similar nose. I thought it was status quo. Checked chain tension, lubrication etc. Everything seems OK. IMHO, they just make this type of noise, but never having a set up like this before I don't know. Rick_in_CT 156 #15 Posted December 29, 2013 John, No, not another 5xi yet, but a new, in the box (still factory strapped) 5xi plow setup. I already have one, but I came across this one and I couldn't help myself. They said that it must have been in the warehouse for 5 or 6 years and had been forgotten about. They even threw in the spiders that were crawling around on the carton. Like fine wine, it is going to age in the carton for now. Rick
rexman72 210 #16 Posted December 29, 2013 rick that sounded like my blower until you mentioned the chain was to tight and messed up.
