Rock farmer 41 #1 Posted December 28, 2013 Would You pay $450 for a non-running D-160 with a three point hitch? Looks to be complete. Minus grille and proper exhaust. May have a mower deck. Maybe the hitch is worth it? Thanks, Joe
pacer 3,177 #2 Posted December 28, 2013 Thats probably too much to pay for a nonrunner - you need to know if the hyd drive is good, that Sundstrand drive could have problems and be a pain, and of course the motor could be bad also. It is a fantastic tractor if the drive is in good working order, the 3 point hitch is a real plus. I just took a gamble on a 160 for $300 and pretty well lucked out - the Ross steering was totally wiped out (another potential problem area on the D's) the axle spindles were also beyond repair. But I found another Ross unit and spindles and replaced them. The tractor is pretty beat up, but the engine and drive seem to be in very good condition and with the repaired steering it drives out really good so the $300 turned out to be a pretty good price. joel_400 59 #3 Posted December 28, 2013 I paid 300 for mine with no motor then another 200 or so just to put a motor on. However I put a 16 hp kohler in place of the onan. Then I decided I wanted three pt. So 200 later I had that too! So if youre willing to take the gamble I suppose its a decent price. Worst case would be its beyond reasonable repair and you could part it out and probably make your money back. Ever try to by d series parts on evil bay? Good luck! brandonozz 168 #4 Posted December 28, 2013 (edited) My thought is if your buying it for the parts it might be worth the money. If your buying it to get it running, you might spending more money getting it going than you would by buying a runner you can test out and drive prior to the purchase. I needed a transaxle for my D 200 and was fortunate to find one for $150. The PO said the only thing wrong was the hydraulic motor was destroyed when he towed it with the "tow valve" still closed. Good engine with PTO shaft and three point. I figure I have some good parts now or I can try to get it going later if I run across a motor and Transaxle. Oh yea, it came with tire chains and cast front wheel weights as well!!! Edited December 28, 2013 by brandonozz
Rock farmer 41 #5 Posted December 28, 2013 Thanks for the reply's I think I'm not feeling tempted. A non running Onan can be big problems! I would like to have a "D" series some day. Just not today. Joe
