leeave96 490 #1 Posted December 26, 2013 I work job that is about a 1 hr commute - 1 way. With that, available daylight is a premium around the house for getting chores done. I've joked with my Wife/Boss that Spring starts December 22, when we start getting a few more minutes of daylight every day. Fall starts on June 22 when the opposite occurs. With the increase in daylight, I start accessing what lies ahead, the state of my equipment and goals for the new year and another lawn and garden season. This year, like the latter part of last summer brings much more mowing chores, some landscaping/cleanup and a couple of gardens - read plenty of seat time for the Wheelhorse fleet. Mowing: I'll be using the 314-8 again around the house with the 36 inch RD deck. 1988 & 1992 520H tractors, 48 inch decks. 1992 520H will also be used for moldboard plowing and some loader work. Depending on time and $$$'s, 1997 and 1991 520H tractor engines will be trouble shooted, repaired or re-engined. Also on the table is to swap the front axle/steering from these tractors to the 314-8 and 1988 520H. Other parts from these tractors would be saved for spare parts if I go that route. I'll be keeping my eyes open for a 60 inch deck and spare 42 and 48 inch decks. Its going to be a busy Spring/Summer in 2014 - are you ready?????

Wheel-N-It 2,976 #3 Posted December 27, 2013 Bill, Spring could come tomorrow as far as I'm concerned. I really miss having some daylight when I get home from work to do anything outside. I'm thinking next Winter to ask my Boss if I can leave 1/2hour early every day just so I'm not doing everything ine the dark when I get home.
sscotsman 186 #4 Posted December 27, 2013 For me, Spring begins every year on April 1st. The "official" seasons, according to the calendar, are meaningless! Here are the seasons for Western NY, based on the climate: Spring - April & May. Summer - June, July, August, 1st half of September. Autumn - 2nd half of September, and October. Winter - November, December, January, February & March. Scot
brandonozz 168 #5 Posted December 27, 2013 I'm looking forward to spring as well. I have the loader on the D200 working now and will be using it to spread a dump truck load of dirt around the house. Definately a task for the late spring so I can get some grass going as soon as possible and get rid of the mud as quickly as I can.
Tankman 3,523 #6 Posted December 27, 2013 (edited) Thinking spring, difficult in 20° darkness! Might over seed the lawns and fall cleanup continues. There is no such thing as a shady lawn, early spring sun light doesn't shade the lawn when the trees have no leaves, grass grows well. Might lime some too. In my local, 50 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. at least every three years. Decks are cleaned, blades replaced or sharpened. Horses are wearing chains at the ready, just in case! PS. Sand applied to the lawns is swallowed, improves drainage and doesn't change pH. Edited December 27, 2013 by Tankman
