Recommended Posts

recently just picked up a simplicity 7117 tractor with a 17kt II on it now would this engine bolt on to a W/H without mods being done to it or would have to happen? this would be going on a C-series type W/H.

From what I can remember,  Wheel Horse was the only company that required ball bearing mains due to side loading

from the PTO clutch.  Others only used bushings.  Look up the spec number of your Simplicity engine and check it

on Kohler's parts lookup.   If you are not using it with the PTO, then go for it.

The oil sump may not be the same, but if you leave your sump in place and remove the sump from the replacement motor it will save time and work, just need to make/buy a new gasket.

good luck and keep us posted.

well I was thinking to tear it out and a make buck or 2 but I think after I just tried to fire it up its not getting any fire and after pricing a coil for it I about dropped my shorts so hoping its just a set of points and condenser, I had picked it up really for the motor at first and part out the rest being hydro really, got a good deal I just hoping not to get a lot in it but we'll see but my next wheel horse will be a 73 to 80 c-160 or something with the single k341 in it really like that engine, hey Rexman and thanks!

The comments about bearings and PTO are spot on.  I just substituted an electric PTO when I put a JD 317 motor in my C175.  Choke lever works backwards (anti-theft device :) )

Old Harley-Davidson coils will work just fine on that KT for a fraction of the price of a new one. They made a crap load of Sportsters!

Best to get a copy of the service manual from the Kohler website.  To test the coil, check for 4-5 ohms between the outer small (primary) terminals and 9,500 to 11,500 ohms between the inner large high tension (secondary) terminals.
