wheelhorsekid 141 #1 Posted December 17, 2013 I'm no mechanic by any means so a friend is helping me with this. I have a 79' C 161 and the right rear was leaking. He believes it is the "bearings" that i have circled in the pic. Can anyone tell me the name of the part and where I can locate one? Thanks for any help. stevasaurus 23,281 #3 Posted December 17, 2013 Measure the diameter of the axle...if it is 1" the seal is SKF 9815...if it is 1 1/8" the seal is SKF 11050. You can get them at Motion Industries or Napa.

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,489 #5 Posted December 17, 2013 Measure the diameter of the axle...if it is 1" the seal is SKF 9815...if it is 1 1/8" the seal is SKF 11050. You can get them at Motion Industries or Napa. That seal looks to have a larger OD. Do the hydro's use bigger seals? Garry
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,489 #6 Posted December 17, 2013 Axle seal for trans Original 6449 is 1/2" wide for hydro transmissions but CR 11124 seal 1.125" ID x1.628" OD x.256" wide. May be a good thing. The seal may run on a fresh part of the axle. Garry

I did not know about the seals being different in the hydros. Dang...I just hate it when I learn something new. Thanks guys.

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,489 #12 Posted December 18, 2013 1979 C-161 Twin Auto models 91-16BS01 and 91-16BS02 have a B&S engine. 1979 C-161 Auto model 91-16KS01 has a Kohler single-cylinder engine. All show the 6449 seal which fits a 1-1/8" diameter axle. What is your model number? Have you measured the axle diameter? Garry
Kelly 1,033 #13 Posted December 18, 2013 He has 1 1/8" axles, only 70's sunstrand to use 1" axles was the B-100

wheelhorsekid 141 #17 Posted December 18, 2013 Went to Napa. They could not did part number 6449. Any other number this could be? Thanks.
stevasaurus 23,281 #18 Posted December 18, 2013 I have never had much luck with NAPA...I like Motion Industries. Toro should be able to get the seal for you also...take your model number with you if you go to Toro.
Ed Kennell 42,040 #19 Posted December 18, 2013 Went to Napa. They could not did part number 6449. Any other number this could be? Thanks. Did NAPA have the Chicago Rawhide #11124 seal that Garry listed above ? It's Only .256" wide instead of .500", but if you push it in till it is flush with the outside face of the housing, the extra gap between the seal and bearing actually makes the seal easier to remove when they need replaced.
