toadmiller 2 #1 Posted December 16, 2013 Well, got my chains on and blower working (42" single stage) only to then pick up a rock... Bad, bad jam in the auger. I cleared the jam, but now the main drive shaft (that runs right-to-left and is powered by the PTO) spins but does not turn the chain pulley wheel. I took off the chain cover and see there are two allen head type set screws that appear to attach the top chain sprocket mechanism to the shaft. When I look in the parts manual, the two parts I am looking at are: Part 3246-2 set screw 937089 – Key Woodruff I tried to tighten the allen head bolts, but they are tight. Did my key woodruff shear off? Or, what else might be broken? Also, any suggestions for locating replacement parts? There are no shear pins, right? Many thanks in advance for the help... bubbacola 8 #2 Posted December 16, 2013 Sound like what I did.... Had a hell of a time getting what was left of woodruff key out of shaft but once i got it out it was a piece of cake. woodruff key and set screws can get at a hardward store
toadmiller 2 #3 Posted December 16, 2013 Thanks for the information... much appreciated! So I guess you just remove the two set screws and slide the piece back, which will expose the woodruff key, right?
Ed Kennell 42,063 #4 Posted December 16, 2013 Yea that should work. My keyway was sloppy in the shaft and I had trouble losing the keys, so I also put a hose clamp against the sprocket gear to keep the key from working out. Ed
bubbacola 8 #5 Posted December 16, 2013 yes.. I had to take the shaft out because of the key being stuck. You may have a groove from set screws turning on the shaft so the sprocket may heed a little persuasion Good luck
