Engine Question - Man I am confused

Recommended Posts

While trying to clean and paint parts for my Kohler K91 engines, I screwed up. I unscrewed the brass nut on the engine block with the long arm attached. Well I was not anticipating opening the engine and now I have to. I pushed the rod into the block. I unscrewed the oil "pan" from the bottom of the engine and found the rod floating in the oil. Now the question...

what the hell do I do! haha

I think I have got how that apparatus goes back together on the outside, but does the rod need to be inserted from the inside-out? I am really clueless on engines. I tried to get the rod into that hole from the outside but it doesn't seem like I can get the angle to work. Also what does that rod do once it is in that hole with the brass nut?

If anyone has a drawing or diagram on how the outside pieces go together that would be great!

after opening this block now, the seal does have a tear (I tried to be careful) would it be smarter to buy a gasket (anyone have a #) or just use RTV sealant or another gasket material?

all pics and knowledge would be very useful right now

That apparatus is the governor. It will govern the rpms when your engine is running.

In the upper right corner of any page here you will see the "search" feature. Change the topic to "manuals" and search "K91". You need a manual.

Yes you should replace that gasket.
