On a 7 hp Tecumseh (H7) do you screw in the oil fill cap with dip stick to get the correct oil level reading? Thank you

I don't know about tecumsehs but in the manual for my k161, which is a Kohler 7 HP, it says don't screw it in. It also says it holds 2.5 pints on the engine tag itself but that puts it way over full.

Tecumseh manuals all call for the dip stick to be screwed in for reading

I have found they don't like too much oil myself but it also seems that they are always low! (or empty) :ychain:

Think that could be the reason why...  :confusion-shrug:

the manual suggests checking the oil level prior to every use?
