Kohler 341as need help

I'm new to the red nation, I have been around the forum asking about my d160 that I'm trying to restore but now my old reliable 83, c165 auto is giving me trouble. I have had a backfire when I shut it down the last few times. Also it seems to miss fire (run rough) especially when put to a not so hevey test like 6" of fluff snow. Need help we got 8" coming this weekend and don't want to run it like this for fear of causing more damage.

Ps. Please don't tell me this is a timeing issue. I am mechanicalenough to do points condenser maybe a littl carb adjust but other than that ill be learning as I go. Someone give me good news please!

I'm not going to tell you it's a timing issue, but it sure does sound like a fuel/air mixture problem.  Sounds like it's running a little rich, then when you shut it off, the "unburnt" fuel ignites in the exhaust.  Try this, after you're done using it, let it idle for about 30-45 seconds, shut it off and then see what happens.

Do you have to compensate for the rough running by choking it a bit?

Rmaynard, I have not tried that. But sounds like you both may be thinking carb issue. I will see what happens when I choke it

If choking it helps, you may have air leaking in around the throttle shaft.
