I picked this pan up this summer hoping to complete my Commando 12 big block project and it appears as though I bogged it.I just got a K 301 sump gasket and it is no where near fitting.I have attached a pic of what I have.part number 1788.What is it?Did the big block shallow pan K's have a special gasket or is this pan for a K 181.It has the center dip to clear the rod and a bottom oil plug.HELP

I have no direct shallow pan experience, I have only ever owned one and it never came off the tractor.

But I do know that the shallow pan blocks are different from the "normal" wide based blocks.  This page at Brian Millers might be of assistance:  http://gardentractorpullingtips.com/oilpan.htm

That pan is for the newer c series that had the shaker plate. They used a narrow base block. The nice thing about that pan is that you can still use the long dipper with the narrow pan, unlike alot of flat base narrow pans like cub cadets and john deeres use. The wide base block used a pan with two holes drilled and tapped in the bottom since the frame isnt wide enough to hit all the thru holes on the wide base pan. Ive only ever found one of them that wasnt on a tractor. You can however drill and tap them into any wide pan as far as I know. Hope this helps.

Yes those pans were on the tractors with the shaker  mounting plate. Just had to buy one a couple months ago for a K-341 I put in a C-175. Buy the way, if anyone is going to do that change you will need a different shaker plate also. The one for the K-17 does not have the cut-out for that pan. Just thought it would save someone else that headache.

You need a gasket for a K301 AS. Will the block you're using bolt to the pan that you have?
