Im looking at a 416-8. My question is this. Will my two stage snowblower from my 520 HC work on the 416-8. Will the 16 H.P. have enough power to run the blower ok?

All of your implements that fit your 520HC will fit the 416-8.

Yes it should have enough power.

One word of caution.....if your 520-HC has forward swept front axles and your running a 60 inch deck on it, it will not fit your 416-8. Any deck under 60 inches will fit your 416.

I don't have a 60 I have a 48 or maybe its a 44. The deck was new maybe 6 years ago so I want to keep the deck. The 520 is going down the road. I will say the worst tractor I have ever owned.

If you dont mind telling us why the 520 was the worst tractor you have ever owned.

It was on my consider to buy list, along with the other dozen or so I would like to get. Serious & curious. Thank you.

hello sir,  i had a 2 stage blower on my 416-8 some years ago.  my 416 had the single cylinder kohler and it powered thru some big snowfalls.  it worked very well. you will definitely need the lift assist spring to lift the blower as you will now be manually lifting the blower vs. the hydraulic lift on your  520HC.  also pump up your front tires with a little extra air to help turn as that blower is heavy.   if you are close to massachusetts i might be interested in the 520HC.   what do you not like about the 520HC???  regards   mike in mass.

If the problem with the 520HC is the Onan engine, were it me, I'd swap the 16 hp Kohler into the 520HC, add Matt's foot control kit.  That gives you two hands free for steering and moving around the chute - like on a gear drive, one heck of a torquey engine, hydro lift and the heavy 1 inch spindles/swept forward axle.

Just a thought.

The Onan Engine is most of the problem. If I had a clue what it cost to rebuild one of these. I would have never thought of buying one. Some of the problems with my 520 are my own fault. I tend to look for a deal. A DEAL means it needs TLC most of the time. I have the know how to do pretty much anything. Restored several antique boats. I just do not have the TIME....I have owned several W/H over the years. I have had good luck with the ones in the past. This one has been not so good. Im looking for a MINT 416-8 or something like that. My mowing is mostly forward so its not an issue. I bought a super nice two stage blower a couple years ago. Looking forward to trying it out...

Not sure where your Garage is but there is a nice 416-8 listed on the Hudson Valley, NY Craigslist.  It has the all Wheel Horse maroon decals and under 700 hours on the clock.

hello sir,  i agree with leeave96 comments above.  repowering with a diesel or twin briggs vanguard would not be that costly and probably solve most of your problems. regards   mike in mass.

I have 7 - 520,s repowered two of them with the briggs 23 hp vanguard motor work fantastic easy to install and a lot more room to work with the electrical and motor area, one I repowered with a Honda 24 hp mtr so far no problems 3 years now  ,but ive heard some folks having problems with them. also ive heard if you run the tractor on a steep vertical up a hill with a tractor that's been repowered with a briggs vanguard 23 hp motor that guys been having problems with the oil pumps in motor toro dealer in my area told me this not sure if it,s true but that's what they said . the other 520,s I own I simply cleaned em up heads valves flywheels basic maint and they all run fine now . a lot of guys who own the 520,s have problems with the onan motors surgeing and immediately think the motors shot or start tinkering with the carb , I had that problem with 3 of my tractors got my electrical schematic out traced the wires from the gauges to every place on the tractor ,   shazammmm , who ever had the tractors before me didn,t know squat about electric had many wires in the wrong place especially in the gauges such as hot wires going on gnd terminals and they would take limit switches out and wire the wires together not knowing how that would work but as long as it started they,d run it that way . I wired the 3 520,s properly according to the schematic and theres a certain way the wires from the limit switches have to be wired up and shazammmm again the onan motors straightened out , no more surgeing  none ,wasn,t carb ,valves, any part of the motor .simply wasn,t wired correctly. also on the onans a little blue smoke when they start and a little oil consumption dosen,t mean the motor is bad, those are horizontal motors and when the motor is old the rings get a little wore out and allow a little oil burning but motor still has a lot of power . as costly as it is to rebuild an onan  I just run it till she blows then part it or scrap it and repower   416-8 damn good tractor got one love it just rebuilt kohler mtr runs like a new one, took grenade balance gears out and oil sensor switch in oil pan out ,new piston and rings bored mtr  runs great never sell it ,but 520,s a very strong nice tractor if you rebuild one and set it up right love mine     good luck

I also found that the two stage snowblowers work better with 20 plus hp motors , the 312,s and 416 will handle it just not as strong as the 20 hp thanks

I don't have a 520 or anything that newer in wheel horse but my dads D160 has the onan motor and honestly it the best motor there is in my opinion yes its been rebuilt but he only did the rebuild on it is because he restored the tractor in 1988. Yes they are expensive to rebuild but they last if taken care of I'm building a P220 onan from the ground up for my GT-1142 and haven't really put much money in it like 400 and have to put another 400 in it to finish it compared to the $1300 rebuild kit
