shiner 0 #1 Posted December 5, 2013 I have a nice 520, not sure of year that I have only occasionally used for mowing but I decided to use it to push snow this year and put my chains on and found them to rub, especially on the left side. Tires are 23/10.5/12. I'm thinking that maybe a previous owner may have put different wheels on. Even with 5/16 spacer the left side rubs. Not sure if I want to get different wheels, spend quite a bit of $$$$ and have bigger spacers made or do some trading and get a single cyl. kohler tractor and not worry about it. Anyone else have this problem with there 520?
cheesegrader 433 #2 Posted December 5, 2013 (edited) No way tire chains should rub on a 520. What are the chains rubbing against? Seat pan? My chains are inches away from rubbing anything. Are these auto chains? Can you post pictures? If you can't fix this, and decide to get rid of a nice 520, I would love to talk, even if the chains rub! Sparky-(Admin) 23,168 #3 Posted December 5, 2013 Have the hubs slid in towards the tranny housing? If you have the correct rear rims there should be no rubbing. Mike...........
squonk 43,843 #4 Posted December 5, 2013 I think you have non WH wheels. I have the same set up on my C145 and the spacers allow the wheel and chains to clear the gastank
AMC RULES 37,196 #5 Posted December 5, 2013 (edited) Humm...I don't know. I've got chained ags on my 520, and they don't rub. Edited December 5, 2013 by AMC RULES
shiner 0 #6 Posted December 5, 2013 from the tank theres only about 1/2 inch and the chains hit the brake. the hubs are slid in almost flush with axle
dbartlett1958 99 #7 Posted December 5, 2013 Are the wheels on backwards?
shiner 0 #8 Posted December 5, 2013 I wish it was something as simple as the wheels being on backwards. I guess I'll just have to use the walk behind snowblower this year since I waited so long to mess with it
dennist 139 #9 Posted December 5, 2013 I think you have non WH wheels. I have the same set up on my C145 and the spacers allow the wheel and chains to clear the gastank I think he may be missing the spacers as he is hitting the tank?
leeave96 490 #10 Posted December 5, 2013 FWIW - I've had the same problem with my 314-8. Bought it new, everything is original. Chains were close to the "U" shaped bracket that the seat pan hits on. I was afraid that if the chains got loose, they might catch and do a lot of damage. Were these spacers something Wheelhorse offered to prevent the chains from rubbing the inside of the tractor? Because of this I don't run chains.
bitten 134 #11 Posted December 5, 2013 Dont quote me on this but I think Wheel Horse offered a spacer for chains to clear the brake on the left side. shiner I am in Ohio and have a nice set of wheels and tires that should work great, I would let go cheap. PM me if interested.
shiner 0 #12 Posted December 6, 2013 I pm'd you. i'm only an hour or so from you. Either I'm going to get chains to work or trade or sell for a different tractor such as a single cylinder
ericj 1,579 #13 Posted December 6, 2013 are your tires inflated properly, if the tires bulge out to much that could cause your chains to rub eric j
shiner 0 #14 Posted December 6, 2013 I deflated and put chains on tight then pumped up to 20lbs
