dewdew 10 #1 Posted December 2, 2013 I was just givin a 76 D-160 auto. It was brought to a local outdoor power shop because it had a broken (driveshaft?) the shaft that links the motor to the trans. And the previous owner was told that it was not repairable. Has anyone out there had isheus with this, or know a place that would be more up to date on parts for this tractor in the west Michigan area. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
ol550 830 #2 Posted December 3, 2013 Happens more than most would like. Typically the splines strip out on the hydro pump and or coupler. Parts other than the rubber part don't seem to be avaliable. Some have drilled the coupler and pump shaft for a fix. You wil need to move the engine forward to see for sure what you have left to work with. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I have a good used coupler and pump. the pump I got came of a D 160 with a stripped coupler. I am hoping it is just the coupler on my D-160. I live in the Lansing area if all goes well you can give me a call. On ebay there is a pump for sale in Michigan ebay # 190949087708 and there was a coupler for 50.00 but I can't find it know, I gave 30.00 for the one I have. So I listed it on Redsquare classifieds for $42.50 and simultaneously on eBay for $50.00 it just sold yesterday. Mark. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
dewdew 10 #5 Posted December 3, 2013 I do have the coupler but that is striped and it was already fixed by drilling out both the coupler and the shaft. Then it broke on the hydro side again. So all I have is a striped coupler and about 3/8 or 1/2 inch of shaft coming out of the pump. Has anyon rebuilt a pump and machined a new shaft? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

LFDRET 21 #7 Posted December 3, 2013 Well It is done!!!!!!!!! I moved the engine forward, (I took off the mufflers and the front grill / hood) the coupler slid off fine. Inspected the spline on the pump, and decided it to was too warn. this part took no longer then 1 1/2 hour. But the pump removal was a little harder. this took about 2 hrs only because of the 4 bolts under the pump to the hydro manifold. I did remove the engine as long as I had it moved forward. That gave me alot more room to remove the pump. I bought new o ring seals and installed the used pump and coupler. the whole job took about 6- 8 hrs. Now I have a Electoral problem, So I could not start it (@*@#$%&*) that will be another days project. - So at least do the first and find out if you just have a bad coupler, witch is a easy fix if you can find a coupler.
