I'm thinking of grabbing this to use my plow attatchment for and from the pics it looks like in good shape, what's a fair price you think runs and goes good00909_1IMsMQgSJdo_600x450.jpg

Can't help on price. But, the answer is always yes to another one. I believe these 18s are pretty rare. Oddballs interest me.

Didn't know they ever made a C-181. Could be that someone added an 18hp to the C based tractor and put on new decals.

C series tractors make excellent snow plowing machines what ever size engine is in it.

If you go to look at it, see what the ID number is on the tag.

Second generation C series built in 1978 & 1979

M-18 Magnum twin introduced late 1986 / early 1987

I'm rolling up my pant legs and standing on a milk crate for this one. :eusa-whistle:

ok well then now you got me thinking maybe I should be weary of this but i'm sure on the hood it says c-181 and its twin from the other pics I've seen of it but who knows of actual hp I really just assumed looked pretty original to me?

I'd say it's either a C-81 or 101 decal that was modded by a Sharpie marker - or maybe our very own Vinylguy made custom decals for the engine swapper.

The tractor looks familiar, but I can't remember if I saw it on here or another website.

Its not an original machine but that doesn't mean it isn't worth looking at. If the motor swap was done right it should be a pretty stout machine. The C-81's had the 1-1/8" axles with the 8 pinion rear, the best that WH put out. I have two machines that dont have original engines and they perform great! Looks like the pto was hooked up right, Kohler Magnum I think.

I agree with Mike and there's nothing wrong with having more power. Actually that tractor is probably worth more now with that engine in it than it would be with the original one. Assuming things aren't hacked in there. Plus that 18 horse would make a great snow thrower too

oh I like the idea of the big twin on there but i'm kinda of a original freak, but we'll see I won't have a chance to see it until next week anyways but from what I can see it looks to be nicely done anyways

I never implied it was a bad combination - just that it's not a production model and shouldn't be passed off as one.

I put a V twin Vanguard on my GT-1848 earlier this year and it's now my favorite worker - original or not.  At least the original decals are still correct. :thumbs2:

I emailed the seller last week letting him know it was not original, not that it bothered me on that end, but it must have bothered him, as he would not respond to any offers I made him.

Well I wasn 't sure and I only try to post whats true and far as the combo I didn't take it as a bad combo, sorry for any misunderstanding the guy that owns doesn't even know what he has he thought it was only 8hp and I explained that according to the pic he had a twin and I guessed a kohler 18hp by the looks so I was only going on pics that I saw? but that van guard looks awesome in your gt though

The more I looked at that engine, the more it reminds me of a KT17 or KT19. It doesn't look like a Magnum!

is that a good or bad thing?

I'm just throwing it out there. The KT Series I engines had major problems when used on side hills. They were not a pressurized oil systems and far too many blew rods. The Series II KT Kohler engines were much better.

You just need to look at that engine if you look at the tractor and get the model number. The Magnum will start with an M. The KT series with KT.

The KT's were manufactured before the Magnum Series. The muffler looks like those off of a Magnum but the flywheel tin and shroud look like a KT. I would make sure if he is saying it's a Magnum, that it is in fact....a Magnum.

Just for future reference, engine tin should say spec. #24300 and above for it to be the KT17 Series-II......just to cover myself you can not always trust that someone put the right tin on the engine, but I personally would not worry too much.
