414-8 fuel valve

Recommended Posts

Hey folks. Hope everybody had a nice thanksgiving. My question is when replacing the fuel valve on the bottom of the tank are you supposed to use any type of sealant on it. Also is there supposed to be a screen inside the tank somewhere because if it is mine doesn't have. I thought I remember reading about a filter screen in the tank but i I may be wrong

We are talking about the under seat fuel tank right? If so, no sealant necessary. The filter screen is part of the new shutoff valve.

Just to throw in my 2 cents, I always replace the rubber bushing the valve goes in. The rubber is sometimes hard, and tears or breaks when removing the valve.

That's the valve. The bushing came with it. I guess what I meant to say was putting a gas resistant sealer on the bushing. It felt fairly tight testing the fit but it won't like I had to tap it in with a hammer

I always separate the valve from the bushing, put the bushing in and then put the valve in.

No sealer, but I normally put some sort of slippery stuff on the pieces before I insert them - rubber grease, or even some spit.

When the tanks get a little dirty the screen seems to often clog up.  Often people tear the screen off and rely on an inline fuel filter to keep the pump and carb clean.

I do not see a screen on this valve. It's identical to the old one. Didn't see one on the old one either. I'll put an inline one on

No sealant is req'd. I use an inline fuel filter regardless if the valve has a screen or not.

Good luck,

Bill
