eclecticlady 0 #1 Posted August 31, 2008 I am writing this for my husband who has given me the bare necessities for posting, so please try not to roll your eyes or shake your heads at my questions if they sound a bit....well, stupid. Anyway, we inherited an old-but-sturdy Toro Wheel Horse 520-H
combatmp29r 27 #2 Posted August 31, 2008 eclecticlady . No eye rollin here LOL. Yes that dipstick is for the hydro fluid in the transaxle. I can't remember off the top of my head wethere the 520 took ATF or 10W30 in the trans. I know someone will be along shortly that does though.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,573 #3 Posted August 31, 2008 Eclectric Lady, Like Joel. no eye rolling here, if I did, then I would have to roll my eyes at some of my questions. And Joel is correct, that's the dipstick for the transmissions fluid. You can down load some manuals for that tractor by going here: Toro Products Manual Lookup. You will need your model number (keep in mind the 520-H is NOT the model number). Your 520H was made starting in the late 80's to the mid 90's, so there are several model numbers that it could be. And also, your 520H is an excellent tractor, Wheel Horse's top of the line for that era.

TT-(Moderator) 1,156 #5 Posted August 31, 2008 :USA:, to you & your husband! (and your 520) ALL 520-H tractors are equipped with the Eaton model 1100 hydro unit, so they all use 10W-30 "motor oil". The dipstick is marked with the proper level to maintain. There is also a replaceable screw-on filter on the left side of the tractor under the rear fender that - along with the oil - should be changed at least once a year. Follow the previous leads to the manuals at Toro and you should be all set. :banghead:
