racinfool40 203 #2 Posted November 27, 2013 A complete trans swap will work just have to cut were the high low shifter will go and I think make some clearance cuts for the bigger drive pulley around the drive belt guard as far as puttin an 8-pinion differential in a 4 speed..it wont work with out some machining..8-pinion are 1-1/8th axles and the 4-pinion is 1" axles. jrc0528 20 #3 Posted November 27, 2013 I have an 8 speed all rebuilt that will go in my 1055 this coming spring. It's pretty much bolt-on level, although I need to get a pulley the OD of the old 4 speed pulley but with the smaller 1/2" bore. Also will have to trim the tall dipstick tube and dipstick, as well as cut a hole under the seat for the dipstick to poke up through.

But not all 1-1/8" axles have 8 pinions and there are 8-speed's with 1" axles and 4 pinions. Garry
