HorseWhisperer 243 #1 Posted November 16, 2013 I'm conjuring up this winter's project Franken tractor and I'm seeing a fresh rebuilt K301 in a 1045 chassis with a twin stick 8 pinion rear.I have a set of 953 axles and was wondering...........Should I go through the effort? How would it look widened? Will it just weaken the usability as its gonna drag a 12 brinly bottom plow, disks and run a tiller. What do ya think?I think it would look mean widened and taller with 15" ags and churn a lot better.Any input would be great.I have the engine all moded up with shallow pan and cut bearing plate/shroud clearance, just want that hard working, unique look to go along with this handsome worker! oldblue1993 98 #2 Posted November 17, 2013 I just got done rebuilding a k301 for an one of my B-80s love that engine, "anyways got off track there" I would think it would power through almost anything. I would think that a wider rear end would put it on more stable ground with pulling a plow and a higher clearance may keep it from any drag. Just not sure of a taller effect on implements"if any at all"
baerpath 517 #3 Posted November 17, 2013 I have a 10 pinion case with an 8 pinion in it that has GT14 axles and 15 inch tires under a 516. Works fine but high gear is a cruiser gear with the big tires on it. Other thing is you'll be going down hill all the time if you don't lift the front up. You saw the 516 when you were here just think of that
HorseWhisperer 243 #4 Posted November 17, 2013 I do recall Duane.I am gonna put a 520 forward swept under the front with some 4-8 sneakers.I hope that will level it all out.I was a little concerned with needle bearing weakness or axle bending chores but I think everything will be fine too!
