hcminis 1,700 #1 Posted November 9, 2013 Special thanks to Dave Tallon for spotting this beast for me. Met the owner last night and was an easy load. Backed up to his trailer and let the ramp down on my tail gate. Tractor rolled right in and off I went. This morning got it unloaded and did some fun pics with the Suburban beside it. This thing is huge compared to what I'm normally playing with. Snow blade is in very good shape except somebody welded a new cutting edge on instead of holding it on. Didn't have a battery so used the Dixie Chopper. Shot some carburetor cleaner in and fired right up. The front grilled is heavy cast so removed it for better access to carburetor. Shot some fuel in and fired up again and ran on it's own. Believe the generator might be bad because the battery ran down very fast. Charging the battery now but was able to start it twice without and fuel being shot in the carburetor. Have a list started on what all needs fixed which is very short. Did a loop around our drive way. The hydraulic lift works so far. Didn't have the blade on to test for a load but did move the blade connector up and down fine. The only bad thing right now, except generator, is p.o. couldn't find the oil bath air cleaner. Said he had it but wasn't able to locate before heading out. Promised me he would send it out in the mail just as soon as he finds it. Very very happy right now.

AMC RULES 37,196 #3 Posted November 9, 2013 They do look good together... use caution...they will multiply when you least expect it.
timo4352 147 #4 Posted November 9, 2013 Looks pretty clean. I'd be happy with it too. Nice patina - I'd be tempted to keep it that way.
Sparky-(Admin) 23,168 #5 Posted November 9, 2013 I think it weird how most everytime someone finds one of these it has one headlite lens . Nice find of course! Mike..........

hcminis 1,700 #9 Posted November 10, 2013 Thanks everyone. Yes, the previous owner took the oil bath off to get the tractor running. Said he put it up and can't find it but promised it would be found a mailed out. Hope to get a seat for it soon from another R.S. member. My list is short for what the tractor needs. Hodge71 665 #10 Posted November 10, 2013 (edited) What a great ride. I definitely would love to have on of those in my stable. Congrats and good luck with her. Did you get to take it for a cruise around yet? Edited November 10, 2013 by hodge71
Shynon 7,482 #11 Posted November 10, 2013 That is one nice looking horse. looks like you have a tough descision, restore or leave as is. Nice score
Martin 2,133 #12 Posted November 10, 2013 very nice and straight 1054.... looks like you are only missing a few things to make it complete. glen in the vendor section has the headlight lenses, these use a slightly different generator belt guard, they sit on spacers and bolted straight through them into the tin. you have the right tins on the engine for this model, bolt positions for the belt guard are also different........ hope you get the air cleaner........ oh, and the grill is a bonus as well, those and the 953 are definitely very unique tractors. the 1054 was my introduction into wheel horse tractors. my wife went and stole it from me, i really miss that tractor........ hcminis 1,700 #13 Posted November 10, 2013 Not going to restore this one. Will stay all original as much as possible. Thinking that someone put a different starter/generator on it though. Not sure what the original one looks like. Will be contacting Glen for the replacement lens. Want to get it running strong without any trouble first and then the cosmetic part will be last. That being said....every time I've started it so far, it starts on first crank. Just runs the battery completely down....
dtallon 320 #14 Posted November 11, 2013 That tractor sure looks alot better next to your Suburban than it did sitting in line with those Cubs where it was. Glad to hear that it runs like Tom said it would. I still can't believe how well it all worked out for you. Being able to help out a friend and fellow collector is what makes this hobby fun. hcminis 1,700 #15 Posted November 12, 2013 Update: Got the old girl running good so far. Will start on the first crank and runs strong. Still need to take it for a good test drive....only one trip around the circle drive isn't enough. The hydro is weak on lifting. Put the blade frame on and it would raise it fine but with the blade attached would struggle to lift it. Gonna check for any leaks tomorrow and possibly low fluid...(hope the later). Removed that huge ugly seat and was able to bend some 1/2" conduit to make a fame template. Have a couple buddies that owe me some favors so hope to get a frame made for free. Glen has the headlight lens for me so will get those tomorrow. Not sure about the front hub caps...think they should be metal? Any help there is appreciated. Will need a new push button start and key switch...previous owner changed it and the new key switch won't work at all. Goal tomorrow is check and route the choke cable. Check the fluid in Hydro. Start running wire for the lights. Take it for a little drive....
Martin 2,133 #16 Posted November 12, 2013 when i rebuilt our 1054 the metal hubcaps were still available new through my local toro dealer .part number 3372 . currently $6 and change (parts tree price)-ouch.........I've heard that some boat trailer caps will fit too. the cole hersee switches and push buttons are still available new online through electrical suppliers like elecdirect.com. I'm sure you could find similar items for less. http://www.elecdirect.com/product/db48754a-51cc-4a99-9bcd-da3ca571b229.aspx http://www.elecdirect.com/product.aspx?id=13793 check out my rebuild thread, there might be some other stuff there that might help you out. this could be of some help for finding part numbers too... Wheel Horse Kid 105 #18 Posted November 13, 2013 Nice 1054 there!
hcminis 1,700 #19 Posted November 14, 2013 Not much update other than the Hydro was really low on fluid. Still not lifting as it should so may check level again. Lowering isn't a problem but really struggles lifting with any load on the frame. However, once lifted will stay up fine. Still need to figure out the choke cable routing. Once I can get the choke cable reattached then the grille and hood can be mounted. Then will get all the light wiring redone.

hcminis 1,700 #21 Posted November 15, 2013 Worked on the hydro last night. Was able to get the pump off but not the cylinder. The rear pin on the cylinder is froze. Pump was full of junk and the spring was broke. This is my first attempt and had some help getting this far. Will let an expert take over from here.... Great to have a mechanic on call til 11:30. Thanks Marshal...
hcminis 1,700 #22 Posted November 18, 2013 well....now the fuel pump is bad. Would like to start putting this old girl back together soon...lol. Hope to find a fuel pump or a rebuild kit for this one. Hope to get the hydro pump rebuilt soon as well.
