Jim_M 179 #26 Posted November 4, 2013 That plow looks like it fits the front tachamatic and uses the snow blower lift tube and flag to lift it. Other than the fact that it doesn't angle I'll bet it would work great. The tire chains would fit, but would have a lot of "overlap" unless you shorten them. Either way, they could be made to work. raptor0192 2 #27 Posted November 9, 2013 Yep, that's how the plow works. I bought this lot of stuff yesterday and picked it up. I need to install yet. Hope it all fits ok and all is there to connect it up.
raptor0192 2 #28 Posted November 9, 2013 And yours was a 308-8? And did the blade connect at the rear of the tractor? Look here at 21-08K803, attachments: https://homeownersolutions.toro.com/portal/server.pt/community/product_center/217 42" not listed. In the pamphlets, the 42" blade was listed and checked for some other tractors, but not the 308-8. So that's odd. I had the wrong site above, I think....should be: https://homeownersolutions.toro.com/portal/server.pt/community/product_center/

raptor0192 2 #30 Posted November 9, 2013 The lift tube appears to be way too long for the blade.... Could that be possible?

raptor0192 2 #32 Posted November 9, 2013 http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/category/28-snow-blowers/ Thanks! I was going to ask where the eyebolt and spring go. But I do think the lift tube is too long for this blade...
raptor0192 2 #33 Posted November 10, 2013 (edited) Well the chute adjustment cable broke. It was already frayed. Appears to be about 14 AWG braided wire? Good place to pick some up? How about this? http://www.mcmaster.com/#3450t24/=pbj2i2 http://www.mcmaster.com/#3461t633/=pbl5gf Also, when I lower the blower, the right side (as referenced when sitting on the tractor) sits up off the ground an inch or two, even though the other side is down. If I push down hard on the lever, it pushes that side of the blower down flush as well. Some adjustment somewhere? Or something bent somewhere? Also too many cross links on the chains. Good tool to remove them? Edited November 10, 2013 by raptor0192
timo4352 147 #34 Posted November 10, 2013 The manuals section and search feature are your friends... spend some time researching... it's fun...and informative... That being said --- The Toro cable part number for my snowblower (model #0642st04) is: 104460 and it cost me $13.64 Scroll through the manuals section here to find the manual for your model. You should find one there. It has very specific instructions on how to install the cable. partstree.com jack'ssmallengines.com Or your local Toro dealer can get one for you. Modifying chains will be a time consuming project - cutting with bolt cutters or a grinder and welding with the mig would be my choices. I'd be tempted to just buy the right size chains and be done with it.

I'd be tempted to just buy the right size chains and be done with it. I got the manuals yesterday or the day before. I was hoping to just get a piece of braided cable from anywhere. There's nothing special about it. I'm sure some place has a small piece of cable for almost nothing.... And I just need to open up the cross link connectors and take the extra chain off. I don't need to add or cut anything. Just need something to open those up.

This old one looks like it may have been coated with nylon or something at some point. Edited November 10, 2013 by raptor0192
raptor0192 2 #37 Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) I'll just get a piece from McMaster. Still don't know why the blower doesn't sit flat at all. Edited November 11, 2013 by raptor0192
raptor0192 2 #38 Posted November 12, 2013 If I cut a little off the lift tube, will that possibly allow the blower to sit down the whole way when lowered?
raptor0192 2 #39 Posted November 13, 2013 (edited) Turned out to be the spring assist. Once I got it off completely, then the blower sat down the whole way. Still waiting for a new chute cable, and I need to cut the extra off the chains. Edited November 13, 2013 by raptor0192
raptor0192 2 #40 Posted November 18, 2013 All good to go now, except the bar that attaches to that little rod on the chute, to keep the chute at the right angle, keeps falling off the rod. Too bad it didn't have a cotter pin. Good way to keep that bar on that rod? I don't think drilling a hole in it for a pin would be a good idea... Thanks! Jim_M 179 #41 Posted November 18, 2013 If it's the rod that I'm thinking it is, it's supposed to have a hole in it for a pin.
raptor0192 2 #42 Posted November 18, 2013 Some parts diagrams I've seen have a hole in it for a pin, but this one doesn't.

raptor0192 2 #46 Posted November 20, 2013 Did they make different lift tubes for these blowers? I thought I saw a few that were bent slightly. Mine is straight. What's the bent one for?
Jim_M 179 #47 Posted November 21, 2013 The flat iron on the end is the only thing that should ever be bent. If the tube is bent then that was an accident.
raptor0192 2 #48 Posted November 21, 2013 I've seen others like this too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wheel-Horse-42-Snow-Thrower-Blower-Lift-Tube-45-3-4-Long-/111220967434?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
Jim_M 179 #49 Posted November 21, 2013 I've owned probably a dozen snow throwers and never had one with the bent lift rod that I can remember.
