Shuboxlover 481 #1 Posted October 28, 2013 Finally got around to messing with the 416-8 I picked up a couple months ago. Got the fuel lines and everything taken care of and fired her up. Something is not working correctly and I hope someone can help. It will start and run perfect for about 5 seconds and then all of a sudden out of nowhere it will sputter and die. When it dies, gas comes up through the 5 small holes on top of the carb....If I let it set for a couple minutes it will fire back up and the same thing happens. I have a feeling it might be the float sticking as there was gas in the air cleaner housing when I took the lid off for the first time after it died, that's when I noticed the gas coming up through the 5 small holes when it dies. Does this sound plausible to you guys, or should I check something else? Thanks
boovuc 1,090 #2 Posted October 28, 2013 Sounds like the float. Take the top end of the carb off. The float comes right out with the needle valve guts once it's opened up. (Careful lifting the float so you don't lose the needle). Check to make sure it isn't full of gasoline and that it isn't obstructed. Make sure the needle valve end is good and not oblong or missing the rubber end altogether. Next, use some "Spray Seafoam" and clean that carb out making sure you nail the little ports/jets/orafices in there. (Wear eye protection as spraying directly in them forces Seafoam right back up in your face from another opening). After spraying everything including the walls and bottom of the reservoir, wipe things down with a very clean sturdy paper towel and use Q-tips to get in the corners. Martin 2,133 #3 Posted October 29, 2013 the only thing i would add is while you have the top off the carb remove the slow idle jet and make sure all the little holes are clear……..
