C-120 Drive Belt Issue

Recommended Posts

David Upton

Just read in a previous posting that the belt guard needs to be in place for the clutch pulley to do it's assigned function. I have struggled with trying to replace what I believe the original belt 83 inches in circumference with an automotive B type also 83 in circum which appears to be a tad bit wider. Is this the reason I cannot get the belt to slow down for shifting. Thanks in advance for any help here.

For the drive belt, you NEED to use a Wheel Horse belt. Automotive belts are not the proper angle to provide the correct "slippage" with the Wheel Horse clutching setup.

That's exactly what I was thinking Paul and where would be the best place to get one? Relatively new at this but loving every minute.

What is the model number of your tractor? I though the C-120's use 82", 84" or in rare cases a 85" belt.

The factory ID is actually a B-60 eight speed. 61-07K801. The old belt is a perfect 83 inch.

I actually have a B series chassis with C-120 panels and decals. It has a Kohler 12 hp and the drive belt measures exactly 83 inches. Factory ID is 61-07K801.

I have used fractional hp beltson both my c101 and c141 with great success. The B series belts are industial belts not automotive belts ,although they are available at automotive stores. Your drive belt would be a 6983 for 83 inch 6984 for 84 inch and so on. If you want to know the size gates belt to use on your tractor you can go to gates cross reference on gates web site and they will cross wh numbers to the proper gates # for you so you dont have to depend on the guy a the parts store to cross it correctly.
