Score in the junkyard today

Stopped in the local junkyard today just to see what they had laying around, They had my brothers old Cub in there which had a set of Wheel Horse wheel weights on it. I talked to the guy and he was trying to sell the whole tractor. I told him I was only interested in the rear wheel weights and that it would still be a complete tractor that was sellable, he finally agreed to sell them to me and I paid $25.00 for them.

That is the way it is here too, if you just want a part they don't want to deal with you. Take it or leave it is the way they look at it. You probably could have got the whole tractor for $40 if they sell by weight. Then you could have brought it back or taken it to another yard and got your $40 bucks back. It's a vicious cycle.

Good save, but why didn't your brother give you the weights before he went to the scrap yard?

My brother didn't junk it, he sold it to a church that wanted to use it to plow the parking lot and they junked it. The junkyard wanted to sell it by weight but the way that tractor was sitting it went over the scale at 1200# We added a load of weight when we built it for pulling, so at .25 per pound it still would have been about $275. When he sold it I had a charger that had 26-12-12 tires and they were filled so it was pretty heavy itself. I didn't realize the wheel horse weights were on it or I would have gotten them. He would have given them to me because that wouldn't have been a deal breaker either way with the church.
